Burns Bog is Ablaze....

"Burns Bog covers an area of more than 4,000 hectares -- eight times the size of Stanley Park -- and is the largest undeveloped urban land mass in North America. Environmentalists have been trying to preserve the bog since the 1960s and in 2004 several levels of government reached an agreement to purchase most of it from private owners for $73 million and keep it protected it in its natural state."


It's a 15 minute walk from my house in North Delta, and it's currently a 20 hectare blaze. There is no telling how long it will take to put this out - the peat burns onderground making it impossible to get to the source. You can smell the smoke all over the GVRD, and see the black smoke clouds in the sky.
